Of Five Games Played TodayDiamondbacks affiliates went three for five on the day Anthony Rendon Jersey , with Reno losing and Jackson splitting the double header.Pitcher Of The DaySam Lewis, Jackson Generals 4.0 scoreless innings pitched, four strike outs, one walk and four hits allowed. Hitter Of The DayAndy Young: 2-2 with home run and a walkReno Aces 3 Fresno Grizzlies 6Vinny Nittoli got the start and was roughed up for six runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks in just three innings. The four earned runs came via long ball, with a two run homer in the first and third inning, and the unearned runs coming courtesy of errors by Abraham Almonte and Yasmany Tomas. Alex Young followed up with three scoreless inning, allowing just a hit and a walk, while striking out four. Robby Scott pitched an inning and a third scoreless innings, allowing a hit and two walks while striking out two. Rubby De La Rosa would allow a hit in two thirds of a scoreless innings. The Aces only had three hits in the game, with two of them coming courtesy of Kevin Cron, who was 2-4 with a double and knocked in all three of the Aces’ runs in the eighth. Travis Snider had a solid night despite going hitless by drawing three walks in the game. Caleb Joseph also reached twice with a walk and the only other hit of the night. Jackson Generals 1 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 2The Generals picked up where they left off in yesterday’s game with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but despite runners on base, they weren’t able to score any more runs in the inning Daniel Murphy Jersey , or the rest of the game. Instead of Bo Takahashi, Matt Peacock got the start, and though he was solid in five innings, he still was tagged with the loss due to a lack of run support. Peacock allowed two runs on six hits and a walk and struck out three. Tyler Mark allowed a hit and two walks in two scoreless innings. Bud Jeter replaced Tyler Mark, and pitched a scoreless inning, despite giving up two hits, two walks, and a wild pitch in the eighth inning. thanks to a well timed double play.Pavin Smith was hitless, but walked twice, and scored the lone run of the game in the first. Jeffrey Baez was 2-4, and knocked Smith in the first, while Ben Deluzio had the only other hit of the game.Jackson Generals 2 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 0The Generals rebounded with a seven inning shutout, with just enough offense to win it. Tra Holmes was 2-3 with a walk and a stolen base. LT Tolbert was 2-3 with a walk. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Hall of Famer Craig Biggio hopes increased labor tension doesn’t lead to Major League Baseball’s first work stoppage in a quarter century.“Hopefully ownership knows and players know that nothing good’s going to come of it,” Biggio said Tuesday at Houston Astros training camp, where he will serve as a guest instructor for the next week.Baseball’s labor contract runs through 2021. Players have increasingly complained about the second straight slow free-agent market, and their union has proposed major economic changes mid-agreement. Stars Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel remain unsigned with spring training underway.During his 20-year career with the Astros, Biggio was part of the 32-day lockout during spring training in 1990 that led to the season starting a week late and the 7½-month strike in 1994-95 that caused the first cancellation of the World Series in nine decades.“Hopefully calmer heads prevail when they get into these conversations and negotiations and you don’t ever have something like what happened to us when we lost the World Series, because that was probably the worst thing that could ever happen,” Biggio said.Among former Astros, utilityman Marwin Gonzalez and designated hitter Evan Gattis also remain unsigned. They teamed with Keuchel to help Houston win its first World Series title in 2017.“You want to be with a team http://www.nationalsfanpr...tt-adams-jersey ,” Biggio said. “You want to be somewhere and you want to be part of the chemistry and see who your teammates are and stuff like that. Hopefully the guys that aren’t with a team yet get a team quickly.”Second baseman Jose Altuve (knee) and third baseman Alex Bregman (elbow) reported to spring training following offseason surgery. Shortstop Carlos Correa (back) and outfielder George Springer (thumb) also are healthier than they were at the end of last season.“Altuve, Correa, Bregman, the guys that are coming back that we’re just going to gently ease into the daily schedule, are all doing well,” manager A.J. Hinch said.Bregman this week fielded balls and threw across the diamond on consecutive days for the first time since surgery. The 2018 All-Star game MVP has taken batting practice in a cage but has not faced pitchers on a field. He is not expected to play in a spring training game until mid-March.“I’ve got a long way to go with my swing right now,” Bregman said. “Other than that, my body feels great, which is most important right now.”Bregman expects to be on the field when the Astros open March 28 at Tampa Bay.“There’s no doubt in my mind,” Bregman said. “I might be ready for tonight.”

The game is essentially a big Nerf gun war featuring dance moves and its popularity has even spread to Major League baseball players.Royals outfielder Brett Phillips is a huge Fortnite fan, even getting the chance to play it on the big scoreboard at Miller Park when he was a member of the Brewers. He even has a Twitch channel where you can watch him play games http://www.bravesfanprosh...markakis-jersey , such as a recent tournament he hosted for MLB The Show. This week some baseball players like Rays pitcher Ryne Stanek, and Padres pitchers Logan Allen and Jacob Nix were in Las Vegas for a Fortnite tournament, and came on MLB Network to talk about their passion. Before long, the appearance was crashed by Phillips. And of course, he had to show off his favorite Fortnite dance moves (go to 4:30 if you want to skip to the dance moves). CHICAGO (AP) —nday night’s game at Guaranteed Rate Field was treated at a nearby hospital and released Tuesday morning Marcus Stroman Jersey , according to a Chicago White Sox spokesman. The unidentified woman was sitting in the stands just past the White Sox dugout down the third base line and was struck by a hard liner in the fourth inning off the bat of Chicago’s Eloy Jiménez. She was bleeding around the head area, and was covered with a towel. She walked up toward the concourse with assistance of stadium personnel. She then was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center.“She came back here with her friend and picked up her car this morning,” said Scott Reifert, the White Sox’s senior vice president of communications.“We’ve left a couple of messages for her – we always reach out – and we haven’t heard back.”Reifert said he had no information about the nature of the treatment and it will be up to the woman whether or not her name is made public. The incident was just the latest scary moment to raise the issue of fan safety. Last month, a liner off the bat of the Cubs’ Albert Almora Jr. struck a young girl in the stands at Houston’s Minute Maid Park.Almora reacted emotionally and had to be consoled by teammates and stadium personnel after breaking down on the field. Jiménez reacted Monday night by putting his hands on his helmet after the fan was struck. The protective netting at Guaranteed Rate Field extends to the end of the dugout, which is the level of protection mandated by major league baseball. There has been some talk that it should be extended farther down the line.“I think as an industry, probably all of baseball is gonna continue to take a look at it,” Reifert said. “We really do every year.“Obviously Devon Travis Jersey , the security and safety of our fans is important. I think we made the steps we did around baseball to address that.”Reifert said the White Sox are willing to work with fans who are concerned about safety.“There are a lot of seats behind netting, so for people coming with young kids or if it’s an important concern of theirs, they should absolutely ask at the ticket windows and we will accommodate them as best we can with seats that they know are gonna be protected,” he said. TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Albert Pujols has a bold if unrealistic prediction for his 2019 season.“I’m expecting to play 162 games,” the Los Angeles Angels first baseman said Sunday. “One hundred ninety games I’m going to play this year, including spring training.”A month past his 39th birthday, Pujols is an 18-year big league veteran Roy Halladay Jersey , 10-time All-Star and three-time MVP.“He will not be playing 190, I promise you that,” new Angels manager Brad Ausmus said.Pujols had knee surgery last August. He appeared in 117 games and had 465 at-bats, his fewest since 2013, while hitting .245 with 19 home runs and 64 RBIs.Because the surgery was in the summer, he was able to have a normal offseason.“If he’s playing well, he’s going to play, it’s as simple as that http://www.bluejaysfanpro...anderson-jersey ,” Ausmus said. “The important thing about spring training is making sure he’s healthy going into the season. We certainly don’t want to overload him here and have an issue in April and May. It’s going to evolve as we go. We’ll certainly be cautious out of the gate.”Pujols is expected to play first base and see time at designated hitter until two-way player Shohei Ohtani is given the go-ahead to hit in games following Tommy John surgery. After batting .328 and hitting 445 home runs over 11 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Pujols has a .260 average and 188 homers in seven years with the Angels.“My job is to be healthy and help this ballclub to win a championship,” Pujols said. “I don’t think I need to show anybody. I know what I can do when I’m healthy and that’s what I try to do. My main focus is to help this ballclub win a championship. This is not about me.”Pujols does know Ausmus well from his own playing days.“I have a lot of respect for how Albert plays the game, not only the talent perspective but he played the game the right way — just how he carries himself on the field, the work ethic, all of that,” Ausmus said. “He does a lot of things right.”

f the defending National League champs."Baseball is funny Glen Perkins Jersey , huh?The Reds are bad. They’ve been bad for most of the year. They were good for, like, six weeks, but have been pretty bad in general. The Dodgers are good. They’ve been good for most of the year. They were bad for, like, a six weeks http://www.twinsfanprosho...x-kepler-jersey , but have been pretty good in general. The Reds are 63-83 and in last place in their division. The Dodgers are 78-67 and in second place in their division, only two games back of the division lead.Which means the Dodgers should’ve thumped the Reds, or at the very least have beaten them more often than not this season. That, however, is the furthest from the truth. The Reds have owned the Dodgers this season. Cincinnati has beaten LA six times, sure. But the Dodgers (the good team) have allowed over twice as many runs as they’ve scored against the Reds (the bad team). The Dodgers lost four straight to Cincinnati in LA in early May Paul Molitor Jersey , and almost immediately went gunning for the division lead (the series lasted from May 10 to May 13). Remember, they were kinda shitty at the time, and came into the series hovering somewhere between eight and nine games back of their NL West foes. After losing four straight to the Reds, LA remained eight games back. By May 30, they were 3.5 back. By June 7, they were only a game and a half back. They’ll need that “Reds kicked my ass” kick-in-the-ass to get back into it this late into the season.Anyway Tony Oliva Jersey , the Reds can do more damage to the Dodgers playoff hopes with win and season sweep this afternoon. Ross Stripling as been very solid for the Dodgers, pitching 110.1 innings of 2.61 ERA baseball, to go with a 1.133 WHIP and 9.9 K/9 line. That’s impressive. He’ll face off against Anthony DeSclafani, who has been knocked around pretty well in his last few starts, but he pitches the Dodgers well, to the tune of 3.12 ERA in 26 IP.Cincinnati LineupLos Angeles Lineup TMZ Sportsreleased video ofLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig's house getting burglarized for a fourth time since 2016.The surveillance footage captured on Sept. 18 from inside Puig's home showed two burglars going through a bedroom and closet before finding a safe they attempted to crack. They left before they were able to get it open.TMZreportedon Sept. 23 that police have "significantly increased" their presence in the San Fernando Valley where Puig's home is located because of the numerous robberies in the area. The first time Puig's house wasburglarizedwas in March 2017 http://www.twinsfanprosho...x-kepler-jersey ,with the robbers making off with multiple pieces of jewelry. Puig received an alert on his cellphone and saw two men attempting to break in, but he was able to scare them off by yelling through the app on his phone. The Cuba native has lived in Los Angeles since signing a six-year deal with the Dodgers in 2012. GLENDALE http://www.dodgersfanpros...ax-muncy-jersey , Ariz. (AP) —ast sandwiches on a table in the middle of the room as he entered the Dodgers clubhouse. It was his way of fitting in after not only playing for Boston the past four and a half seasons but also making a substantial relief pitching effort to help the Red Sox defeat the Dodgers in the World Series. As Justin Turner called out, “team guy,” Kelly settled into his locker next to other Dodger relievers and explained his gesture.“I like to treat once in a while,” Kelly said. “I like to bring little things in . especially for the clubbies. These guys work so hard and they never get to eat, so when we go out on the field they can probably snack on it.”The right-handed reliever, who grew up in Southern California, signed a three-year free agent contract with his favorite boyhood team on Dec. 21, less than two months after celebrating with the Red Sox.“It is a little different,” he said, discussing the move to the clubhouse of the team he helped beat. “But I had all offseason to think about it. I wasn’t around the guys initially, but I have been here now for almost a week with the pitchers, and the position players have been funneling in and out every single day. And other than the first time meeting people, it hasn’t been weird, not weird at all after that.”The extroverted Kelly loves talking pitching and has already engaged with new teammates. But he is careful not to overstep.“It depends on if guys want to get a feel for my thought process, mechanics or pitching, what I’ve done in other organizations,” he said. “It is also good for me that I get their ideology, what they do or what is taught here. The biggest conversation starter is to find out about your teammates.”When pitching coach Rick Honeycutt returns to the team upon recovering from back surgery, Kelly plans to get acquainted with the Dodgers’ 12-year pitching coach, who pitched 21 years in the major leagues.Second-year bullpen coach Mark Prior is filling in for Honeycutt.“He’s awesome to talk to Kenley Jansen Jersey ,” Kelly said of Prior. “As of now, me and him, we have been having conversations. … Trying to understand how I think as a player can only help them. I had a couple bullpens and he saw some things where I was not repeating the same delivery or I was a little late on some things. He’s got a quick eye and it is good he can spot those things, so I can fix it on the fly.”Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is pleased with Kelly’s quick transition.“In the bullpens there’s a really clear understanding of what he needs to do, what he’s trying to do, what his pitch mix is: the fastball, the breaking ball, the change. And the lanes he is using to execute a pitch, it is very consistent,” Roberts said. “The rapport with the catcher, his teammates, he’s blended in really nicely.”Given Kelly’s late-season success — he appeared in all five World Series games and permitted only one run in 11 1/3 postseason innings — he’s striving to retain that mode in the back of the Dodgers’ bullpen.“I have a good idea of what led to that, so as long as I keep working on those things and being able to continue to go about my business in that way, hopefully, it will be a successful year,” he said.Notes: Roberts announced Clayton Kershaw will start on opening day for the ninth straight year, a Dodgers record. . Roberts’ message to the entire team Tuesday prior to full-squad workouts was centered on the “Dodger Way.” ”There’s a culture, there’s a professionalism, there’s a toughness in there for us as a team to eliminate the noise outside and just kind of focus on getting better each day,” he said. “The buy-in on that across the board very good.”… Roberts said new players such as A.J. Pollock http://www.dodgersfanpros...ax-muncy-jersey , Kelly and Russell Martin are excited to be with LA. “This is the place they wanted to land. So, for those guys to want to be here and wear this uniform speaks volumes to everybody else in the club house.” SAN DIEGO (AP) — Jeff Samardzija was more than happy to become the first San Francisco pitcher to go eight innings this season as the Giants battered the San Diego Padres 13-2 Monday night. It gave the bullpen a nice rest, and the big right-hander always expects to go as deep as possible.“It feels good when you’re used to that,” said Samardzija, who scattered five hits and had a double among the Giants’ nine extra-base hits.Article continues below ...He was backed by home runs from Kevin Pillar, Evan Longoria and Austin Slater.“You’ve got to get that threshold up as a starter to where that feels normal to be throwing seven, eight, nine innings. Anything other than that is not necessarily a letdown depending on how the day went, but it’s just what you’re out there for and you should expect yourself to be good enough to do that,” Samardzija said.“You have a good sinker that day, throwing off speed for strikes, you’re going to have a good day,” he added. “When you’re pitching that late in the game it’s house money and it always feels good to keep running out there.”The Giants, who beat Arizona 10-4 on Sunday, are coming to the end of a stretch of 20 straight games.Samardzija “was a big story tonight because we had a lot of guys down there we’re trying to give an extra day’s rest,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “He did that and more; eight solid innings, that was huge. Good stuff, good movement. What a great job he did.”Padres rookie left-hander Logan Allen cruised through three innings before the Giants started hitting him hard. Longoria had an RBI double and Slater an RBI triple in the fourth.Samardzija doubled to left field leading off the fifth and scored on Tyler Austin’s two-run double with the bases loaded. Buster Posey followed with an RBI double to chase Allen.Phil Maton came on and retired the side, but allowed Brandon Belt’s RBI single in the sixth and then Longoria’s leadoff homer in the seventh and Slater’s solo shot with one out. It was Longoria’s eighth and Slater’s first.Pillar’s three-run homer off Robert Stock highlighted the four-run eighth. It was his 12th.Allen (2-1) was trying for his third straight win. He gave up six runs and seven hits in four-plus innings.“I made some good pitches but big league hitters do what they should against missed pitches,” Allen said. “I missed a few pitches here and there. I still feel like I competed my butt off Enrique Hernandez Jersey , but results weren’t there. I let off the gas pedal a little bit to try to find the heater on the inner half.“It’s a good thing this happened,” he added. “I’m not happy it happened, but you learn the most from situations like this, as does everybody in the clubhouse when they have a bad day. I move on, I figure out what was working, what doesn’t. Five days from now it won’t happen again.”TATIS JR.Padres rookie SS Fernando Tatis Jr. again showed his speed when he tripled leading off the sixth and then scored on Manny Machado’s popup to second baseman Joe Panik in shallow right. Tatis also had some nice defensive plays.“He’s a heck of a player, man,” Samardzija said. “He’s young, so you’ve got to understand he’s going to be aggressive and try to make things happen. He can hit. It’s just a matter of keeping him off the bases because his speed creates problems.”Said Bochy: “He’s having quite the year for a rookie. He’s all that’s been advertised, probably even more. He’s got everything: defense, runs well, good hitter, hits with power. They’ve got a nice young player there.”ROSTER MOVESGiants: Optioned RHP Dereck Rodriguez to Triple-A Sacramento and recalled Slater from their top farm club.TRAINER’S ROOMPadres: RHP Dinelson Lamet threw a bullpen and could make a start during a four-game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers that begins Thursday night. He’s been sidelined after having Tommy John surgery in April 2018.UP NEXTGiants: RHP Tyler Beede (1-3, 6.45 ERA) is scheduled to pitch Tuesday night. The Giants are 5-2 in his starts this year, winning three of his last four.Padres: LHP Matt Strahm (3-6, 4.94) is 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA in five appearances against the Giants, all last year.

I wouldn’t play professional baseball again, even if I had the chance. It’s a simple sentence, but it’s real. While it is more relatable to the current/former minor league baseball players who have been through it, it’s just as important for any baseball fans or kids to know about some of what you go through as a professional baseball player. It’s been a while, South Side Sox I haven’t wrote here lately (three months, but who’s counting) and the only excuse I could come up with is that I’ve been lazy as fuck. Not like in a I’m laying on the couch with a bag of Lays Classic for an entire day kind of lazy, more like I’ve been so busy with work that I wasn’t able to spend the time I wanted to write kind of lazy. However, I started training for baseball just for leisure purposes, which I am having a lot of fun with. Now, I have no desire to resume playing baseball (not even beer league baseball) — I just enjoy the training part of it. You can follow my shitty journey on Instagram or Twitter @esim3400. Oh, and if you’ve forgotten who I am, there is a reason why, because all I am is a broke minor league nobody who played professionally for six years — which I consider too long. Now, if you ask most, if not all, of the kids who are playing baseball right now if they would like to be a professional baseball player one day http://www.nationalsfanpr...tt-adams-jersey , the answer is going to be a “Hell yes!” And that’s great because, well, the more the younger generations love and play the game, the better it is for the future of baseball. However: Do they know how the MLB draft works? Or what the pay is like in the minor leagues? Or what the daily routine is like for a minor leaguer in-season and offseason? Or what kind of financial problems minor leaguers face on a daily basis? Or what it’s like playing a 7 p.m. game that finishes at 10 p.m. to get you out of the stadium by 11 p.m. to start a shitty 12-hour bus ride with 30-plus people and check-in to the hotel for a few hours before getting back on the field by 4 p.m. for another day of baseball?Of course not.I could probably come up with at least 69 reasons on why I would not play professional baseball again, even if I was given a pro contract right in front of me, but for this article’s sake I’m going to keep it to just three.SalaryThe salary is terrible. The worst year of pay I’ve received was in 2011, which was actually my best year of playing, stat-wise (.350, with six bombs, in rookie ball). Here is a quick breakdown:Spring Training (one month) = $0 salaryExtended Camp (two-and-a-half months) = $0 salaryRookie Ball AZL (two-and-a-half months) = $1,100/month from middle of June until end of August, about $2,800 total.Instructional Camp (one month) = $0 salarySo while getting paid as a professional baseball player in 2011, I received about $2,800, That’s for the year, people. Now I haven’t included meal money, which we receive around $20 per day from the team during spring training, extended camp, only road games in-season, and instructional camp. What I also haven’t included was the fact that from the $1 Brandon Kintzler Jersey ,100/month, after taxes, fees, clubhouse dues (money we pay for the clubbie to do our laundry and other stuff), I was bringing home about $800 a month. You could get a job at McDonald’s as a 16-year-old high-school kid with no skills other than a little bit of will to make some money, and make $2,800 in less than two months.(And my highest-salaried year as a professional wasn’t much better than this, by the way.)Job SecurityJob security is close to nonexistent. There are many, many ways for you to lose your job as a professional baseball player, such as injuries, age (if you are 25 as a professional baseball player, you are considered old), available roster spots, competition within the organization, what kind of numbers you put up, potential level, and more. In contrast, the only way for you to keep your job is to dominate every single year and even in doing so, you may not move up. I’ve witnessed, with my own eyes, lower-round picks repeating a level that they dominated in just because of politics within the organization. Unless you are a first round pick Tanner Roark Jersey , or at most a pick in the top five rounds, you need to put up some serious numbers within two or three years, or you might be the one getting released in the offseason or the following year. Now, I get that this is the highest level of competition there is for baseball, and I welcome the fact that the competition level is so high. But once again, what I have a problem with is the fact that they have to go through all of this shit while getting paid well below minimum wage.LifestyleThe 12-hour bus rides, being away from home for six or seven months of the year, living suitcase-to-suitcase where in most cases minor leaguers don’t even unpack because they can get called up or down in a matter of seconds, constant checking the bank account to see if you have enough money to eat and drink for the week, trying not to kill yourself in Low-A in Kannapolis where a baseball team shouldn’t even exist at all are disincentives to playing the game professionally.I’m 30 years old.Fuck that noise. You may be thinking, c’mon, Sim just said 25 is old for a minor leaguer. He’s 30? Of course he wouldn’t sign a contract — no one would ever offer one. Dude probably can’t even get up off the couch any longer.Well, that’s not exactly right. You know that baseball training I’ve started back up? As fat and out of shape I am currently in, I can still put on some serious numbers. This latest round of baseball training has been a blast, and I’ll tell you about it some time. You may or may not have to wait another three months. Only time will tell. BIRMINGHAM http://www.padresfanprosh...rad-hand-jersey , Ala. (AP) — Hours after the Chicago apped by a pickoff throw, their Double-A affiliate did them even one better on the bases. The Birmingham Barons hit a little popup that turned into a triple play.Barons manager Omar Vizquel, the former star infielder, was coaching third when Birmingham loaded the bases against the Montgomery Biscuits with no outs in the eighth inning of their Southern League game Saturday night.Laz Rivera lofted a popup and the umpires called the infield fly rule, meaning the batter was automatically out and the runners could hold their bases no matter what. But the infield fly rule often causes confusion, too. And when the high pop eluded first baseman Kevin Padlo, it quickly became bizarre. The ball fell on the edge of the dirt and infield grass, and Padlo went down to all fours trying to recover.Gavin Sheets headed home from third base and got tagged out in a rundown. The Biscuits then made a couple more throws to catch Ti’Quan Forbes between second and third, completing the odd triple play.“Crazy Wil Myers Jersey ,” said Curt Bloom, who has called Barons games on radio for 27 years. “I have called a few triple plays, but none with a couple of rundowns on an infield fly.”The Biscuits, an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, won 12-7.Earlier Saturday, the White Sox made a big baserunning blunder and lost to Cleveland 5-2.Chicago had two on in the third inning when Indians pitcher Jefry Rodriguez made a pickoff throw that trapped Yolmer Sanchez off second. Sanchez was tagged in a rundown, and Charlie Tilson also was caught when he strayed off first. NEW YORK (AP) — Monument Park has a new addition that celebrates diversity.A plaque behind the center field fence at Yankee Stadium was dedicated Tuesday night to commemorate the Stonewall Inn uprising 50 years ago, which sparked a pivotal rebellion in the LGBTQ rights movement. The marker was unveiled before New York played the Toronto Blue Jays. It is located on a wall alongside tablets honoring Jackie Robinson and Nelson Mandela for their work fighting prejudice, breaking barriers and creating equality.“It’s incredible. It means everything. It really symbolizes human rights Rickey Henderson Jersey ,” said Stacy Lentz, co-owner of the Stonewall Inn and CEO of Stonewall Gives Back Initiative. “Stonewall Inn is part of that human rights story, but it is overwhelming to see it next to Jackie Robinson and Nelson Mandela.”Steps away sit monuments and plaques that salute Yankees greats from Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig to Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera.New York pitchers CC Sabathia and Dellin Betances, along with general manager Brian Cashman, were on hand for the ceremony.“We were surprised. It was a total and complete shock,” Lentz said. “They said it was hard for them to keep a secret from us because we’ve worked with them for a while.”“We can’t thank the Yankees enough. They’ve been incredible, authentic partners. They’ve gone beyond pride night,” she said. “They understand that having a permanent fixture when fans come here, LGBTQ fans are going to feel safe and welcome http://www.padresfanprosh...rad-hand-jersey , and visibility saves lives. So it’s just incredible to partner with them. We are just humbled and honored to accept this on behalf of the entire community and everyone who came before us to make this happen.”In the wee hours of June 28, 1969, a police raid of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City’s Greenwich Village, gave rise to a series of riots that fueled the LGBT rights movement. The Yankees celebrated the 50th anniversary and “New York’s legacy of pride” on Tuesday night with ceremonies that also highlighted the team’s Yankees-Stonewall Scholars Initiative. Before the game, manager Aaron Boone was asked about the significance of the event.“Inclusion, ultimately. You wear this uniform, you work for this organization, it carries a lot of weight and I think it’s important that as an organization we welcome everyone not only to work for this franchise Cory Spangenberg Jersey , but from a fan base. We want people from all walks of life to feel like this is a place that they can come and feel comfortable, feel safe, feel good about Yankee Stadium and the Yankees as an organization,” he said.“You walk through our clubhouse and you see people from all kinds of walks of life and I feel like we’re stronger because of that, and this is a night that I think honors that. As I talk with our players sometimes: ‘Love somebody that’s different from you.’ I think that’s important and the more people, the more walks of life that we can get involved with this great organization, the better.”

ARLINGTON http://www.yankeesfanpros...-stanton-jersey , Texas (AP) —a $6.25 million, two-year contract Tuesday.Mathis, one of baseball’s best defensive catchers, gets $3.25 million next season and $3 million in 2020.The Rangers later Tuesday added four players to their major league roster, protecting them from being available to other teams during the Rule 5 draft at the winter meetings next month. They added right-handed pitcher Edinson Volquez and outfielder Scott Heineman from Triple-A Nashville, along with right-hander Wei-Chieh Huang and lefty Taylor Hearn from Double-A Frisco.Texas also acquired infielder Jack Reinheimer from the Chicago Cubs on a waiver claim, while right-handers Eddie Butler and Ronald Herrera were assigned outright to Triple-A Nashville. The 35-year-old Mathis spent the last two years with Arizona and hit .200 this season with one homer and 20 RBIs in 69 games. He threw out 18 of 53 runners attempting to steal this year, and his 17 defensive runs saved were five more than any other catcher.Mathis is a .198 hitter in 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Angels (2005-11), Toronto (2012), Miami (2013-16) and Arizona (2017-18).Texas earlier this month declined its 2019 option for Robinson Chirinos, the primary starting catcher last season who threw out only six of 59 attempted base stealers. Chirinos had a $4.5 million option for next season with a $100,000 buyout.Volquez rejoined the Rangers last spring on a two-year deal and had been at the team’s facility in Arizona rehabbing from Tommy John surgery in August 2017. He made his big league debut in 2005 with the Rangers, who traded him before the 2008 season to Cincinnati in the deal that brought future AL MVP Josh Hamilton to Texas. He is 93-87 with a 4.42 ERA in 276 games with the Rangers (2005-07), Cincinnati (2008-11), San Diego (2012-13), Los Angeles Dodgers (2013) Joe DiMaggio Jersey , Pittsburgh (2014), Kansas City (2015-16), and Miami (2017). NEW YORK (AP) — José Alvarado stepped onto the Yankee Stadium mound, 18 hours after walking off with a look of disgust when he wasted a two-run, ninth-inning lead.Luke Voit, whose home run started the previous night’s meltdown, singled leading off the 11th.Not this time.Article continues below ...Alvarado struck out Aaron Hicks and retired Gary Sánchez on a game-ending double play that gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 win Saturday and regained the AL East lead for the Rays. Alvarado slapped his glove and pitching hand together twice, raised both arms to the heavens and smacked his hands together again.“He was ready. He was telling me before, ‘I want the ball. I want the ball. I want to come in. I want to respond from yesterday,'” said left fielder Austin Meadows, who threw out Aaron Hicks at the plate in the sixth, then homered off Luis Cessa (0-1) in the 11th,Tampa Bay had been alone in first place for 47 straight days, the third-longest streak in team history, before New York scored three times in the ninth against Alvarado for a 4-3 win in the series opener and a half-game AL East lead.AL Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell left trailing 1-0 after six innings, bouncing a run-scoring wild pitch in the third. Brandon Lowe tied the score in the seventh with a home run on the second pitch after Tommy Kahnle replaced Masahiro Tanaka Mickey Mantle Jersey , who was hit by a comebacker that left him with a bruised shin of uncertain severity.Alvarado threw 26 pitches Friday and pitching coach Kyle Synder inquired Saturday about the availability of the closer, who turns 24 on Tuesday. Alvarado didn’t hesitate.Ready, he was.Chad Roe, Adam Kolarek, Emilio Pagán and Hunter Wood (1-0) had followed Snell and combined for four innings of one-hit relief. While manager Kevin Cash wanted to avoid using Alvarado again, he called on him after Meadows’ ninth homer this season.“I won’t say yesterday was easy,” Alvarado explained through a translator, “it’s part of the game.”Voit’s leadoff hit in the 11th excited the crowd of a sun-splashed spring afternoon but did not faze Alvarado.“To be able to bounce back, the guys, they showed each other something today,” Cash said.Hicks got ahead 3-1 in the count, fouled off a sinker and swung over a slider that probably would have been low for ball four.“There was an opportunity there for a walk, and I definitely could have changed the outcome of the game,” Hicks said.Sánchez, who had struck out four times, fell behind 0-2 before hitting into a 5-4-3 double play and giving Alvarado got his fifth save in six chances.“I had to just look at the situation http://www.yankeesfanpros...-stanton-jersey , pay attention to the game, and be able to maintain my focus,” Alvarado said.Hicks tried to score from second on Gleyber Torres‘ two-out single in the sixth. Meadows charged and catcher Erik Kratz, making his first start for the Rays, snagged the slightly off-line, one-hop throw and tagged Hicks, who ran past third base coach Phil Nevin’s stop sign.“I was committed to going. I felt like I could make it, and I took my chance,” Hicks said.Tanaka outpitched Snell, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, for the second time in less than a week. Tanaka allowed three hits in six scoreless innings, struck out six and walked none.Ji-Man Choi doubled with two outs on the sixth and Yandy Diaz followed with a hard grounder up the middle. The ball hit just above the pitcher’s right ankle and ricocheted to Voit, who stepped on first. The Yankees said X-rays were negative.“There’s some swelling and some blueness to it,” Tanaka said through a translator. He doesn’t know whether he will be able to take his next turn.“We’ll see how it is tomorrow and I guess we can evaluate from there,” Tanaka said.CC Sabathia had tried to hit Meadows three times Friday, a legacy of testiness from his previous two appearances against the Rays Roger Maris Jersey , Meadows was 0 for 4 Saturday when fouled off a slider from Cessa, stepped out, talked to himself and wagged his bat. Three pitches later, he drove a low, inside slider into the right-field seats, ending a streak of 13 straight outs for New York’s bullpen.“That was fun to be able to do that,” Meadows said.FULL/EMPTYHicks struck out in the third, dropping to 3 for 40 with the bases loaded. His first-inning single had ended an 0-for-8 slide that followed his return from a spring training back injury.OPENERSSunday marks the first anniversary of the Rays using a relief pitcher as an opener in some games instead of a traditional starting pitcher, They are 40-29 in those games, 56-37 in others. “It can kind of set the tone a little bit, Cash said. “You’re just not too accustomed to seeing a guy come in and throwing 98, 99 miles an hour right out of the gate and basically playing matchup baseball in the first two innings.”TRAINER’S ROOMRays: Wood was activated from the injured list, and RHP Austin Pruitt was optioned to Durham (IL). … INF Matt Duffy (left hamstring) was to play seven innings at shortstop rather than third for Class A Charlotte on Saturday night.Yankees: SS Didi Gregorius is to play Monday in his first extended spring training game since Tommy John surgery on Oct. 17 and is projected to rejoin New York in June … LHP James Paxton (left knee inflammation) is to throw a bullpen session Sunday. … OF Giancarlo Stanton (left biceps, shoulder) is to start an injury rehab assignment for Class A Tampa on Monday night.UP NEXTRHP Charlie Morton (4-0) starts the series finale for the Rays against RHP Chad Green (0-2) in a game the Yankees will rely on relievers.

OAKLAND Shelby Miller Jersey , Calif. (AP) —e Angels star takes his first million-dollar swings since signing that monster new contract earlier this month. The two-time AL MVP, freshly inked for $426.5 million and 12 years, and his Angels teammates open the season on the road Thursday against those slugging Oakland Athletics who surprised all of baseball by getting back to the playoffs in 2018 for the first time in four years.Sure, Trout’s contract will be all the talk for months to come. But the Angels also begin a new era under manager Brad Ausmus, the club’s first change at skipper since departed Mike Scioscia began his initial season of 2000.“I’m just glad that I can focus on baseball, because that’s all I ever wanted out of this,” Trout said. “(The contract) is out of the way and we know we’re going to be here for a long time, so now it’s just about playing, winning and trying to win a championship.”Los Angeles last won in 2002 as the AL wild card. The Angels have reached the playoffs just once since advancing to the 2009 AL championship series and losing in six games to the Yankees.Trout’s outfield mate, left fielder Justin Upton, begins the season on the injured list with a toe injury.Japanese two-way star Shohei Ohtani won’t pitch until 2020 but is working back from Tommy John surgery so he can be a designated hitter this season.“I’m really confident about this team. We all know the talent we have in the lineup and the pitching staff, and what we can do if everybody stays healthy and plays to their full potential,” Trout said. “It’s an exciting time, and we know that we’ve got some talent coming through the system that makes it even more exciting.”The A’s have their own motivations after already having played their opening day across the world: Building on last year. Oakland lost its first two games of the season to the Seattle Mariners in Tokyo.“The second year is difficult and these guys know that they have to work even harder and commit even harder to stay where we are, but if you asked our guys last year if we could be in the position we are this year everybody would take it, so they’re embracing it Chris Owings Jersey ,” manager Bob Melvin said.Oakland boasts reigning majors home run leader Khris Davis, who had 48 home runs and a career-high 123 RBIs in the A’s 97-win season. They lost to New York in the wild card game. Now, the A’s are determined to take that further — and make a deep postseason run.“It kind of gave us that taste last year and gave us the confidence that we can compete with the top teams in the league,” Gold Glove first baseman Matt Olson said. “We just want to keep it rolling this year.”Olson will be sidelined for what is expected to be about a month after undergoing surgery on his right hand last Friday. He was injured when he got hit by a foul tip in his final at-bat during last Thursday’s 5-4, 12-inning loss to the Mariners in Japan. The Gold Glove first baseman played all 162 games last year in his first full major league season, hitting 29 homers and driving in 85 runs while batting .247. Along with Davis and third baseman Matt Chapman’s 24 homers, the A’s lineup cleared the fences 227 times in 2018 — third-most in baseball behind the Yankees (267) and Dodgers (235).In Olson’s absence, the A’s will count on Kendrys Morales — acquired Wednesday in a trade with Toronto — and Mark Canha at first and new second baseman Jurickson Profar, who can play multiple positions.“The good thing is that we do have some versatile guys and guys that can be even more productive with some consistent at-bats,” Melvin said. “There’s certain guys that you feel like are a little bit more replaceable than others. He’s a tough one, although we do have guys we like a lot. But the left-handed bat is a little bit of an issue.” MIAMI (AP) — Strobe party lights flashed from the far end of the Philadelphia Phillies‘ postgame clubhouse, and a large beer cooler stood in the middle of the room as manager Gabe Kapler stepped outside for a conversation.“It’s a little loud in there right now,” he said. The sound was one big sigh of relief from the Phillies.Carlos Santana homered to start a four-run first inning , giving the Phils a much-need jump start, and they snapped a three-game losing streak by beating Miami 9-4 Tuesday.“We feel a lot more confidence now having had that game,” Kapler said. The Phillies closed to within three games of NL East leader Atlanta http://www.diamondbacksfa...-greinke-jersey , which lost to Boston 5-1. Philadelphia lost to last-place Miami on Monday but now has a chance to win a series for the first time in a month on Wednesday.Jake Arrieta (10-9) struck out a season-high 11 and earned his first win since July 31. He allowed four runs in 7 1/3 innings and improved to 5-1 in eight career starts against the Marlins.“We got him the lead, and he knew exactly what to do with it,” Kapler said. “Right when we needed it, he stepped up.”J.T. Realmuto hit two solo homers off Arrieta, increasing his season total to 20.Asdrubal Cabrera drove in three runs for the Phils with his 23rd homer and a double. Santana drove in a two runs and scored twice, while Cesar Hernandez hit a bases-loaded triple.“Our offense is capable of having these breakout games, and not just one out of 10,” Arrieta said. “We’ve got a nice cavalry of bats. We can really swing it. It just hasn’t been clicking for us of late.”After totaling five runs in the previous four games, the Phils received a spark from Santana, who led off for only the fifth time this season. After he hit his 21st homer, Hernandez’s three-run triple later in the inning made it 4-0. By the fifth it was 8-1.“It’s big giving my team energy, especially early in the game,” Santana said. “Everybody’s happy.”Seven Miami pitchers combined to allow nine hits and 10 walks while hitting two batters. The Phils drew no walks in Monday’s listless loss.“We got back to our Phillies style of offense,” Kapler said. “We saw a lot of pitches. We worked a lot of walks and had some extra-base hits at the end of deep counts.”Rhys Hoskins earned a painful RBI in the ninth when he was hit on the shoulder with the bases loaded. He left the game for a pinch runner, but after the game Kapler said Hoskins was fine.Newly engaged Marlins starter Trevor Richards (3-8) lasted only 1 1/3 innings in his shortest outing yet. The rookie gave up four walks, four hits and six runs Curt Schilling Jersey , and remained winless since July 14.“I was just falling behind,” Richards said. “I didn’t have command of my fastball.”The Marlins need an 8-15 finish to avoid their first 100-loss season since 2013.EXPERT COUNSELFormer Phillies star Jimmy Rollins joined the team at Kapler’s invitation to offer playoff-race encouragement.ELBOW ROOMAnnounced attendance at Marlins Park was 7,131. There were 1,396 fans actually in the stands for the first inning, according to a head count.ROSTER MOVESMarlins: INF Martin Prado (abdominal strain) went on the 60-day DL, ending another injury-plagued season in which he batted .244 in 54 games. Prado, who is under contract next season for $15 million, was limited to 37 games in 2017.“It has been a rough couple of years for Martin,” manager Don Mattingly said. The Marlins reinstated LHP Jarlin Garcia and RHP Elieser Hernandez from the 10-day DL, recalled INF-OF Chris Bostick from Triple-A New Orleans, and selected the contracts of RHP Tyler Kinley and 1B-OF Peter O’Brien from New Orleans.TRAINER’S ROOMMarlins: SS JT Riddle was scratched from the starting lineup because of a sore left wrist.UP NEXTRHP Nick Pivetta (7-10, 4.66) is scheduled to start the series finale Wednesday night against Miami RHP Sandy Alcantara (1-0, 1.80), making his second start of the season.

Finally living up to the potential?"2018 RATING: 5.352017 RATING: N/A2018 PERFORMANCE: 0-0 http://www.bluejaysfanpro...anderson-jersey , 10 G, 9 IP, 3.00 ERA, 3.94 FIP, 2.70 xFIP, 11:1 K:BB2018 SALARY: LEAGUE MINIMUM2019 STATUS: PRE-ARBITRATION ELIGIBLEFrom being the largest international signing under the iving up a homer, then a triple, then another homer in his Major League debut, it’s been an ugly roller coaster to start young Yoan Lopez’s career and that might be an understatement. Yet despite this horrific start, Lopez rebounded with 9 straight scoreless appearances to end the season, striking out 9 while only allowing 5 base runners (4 hits, 1 walk) in those 9 games. Was this the Yoan Lopez that the Diamondbacks paid $16 million for in 2015?Let’s start from the beginning. The Diamondbacks signed Yoan Lopez out of Cuba for just over $8 million in January 2015. However, due to the team allegedly not understanding the new international signing rules, the team had to pay another $8 million in overage penalties and were forbidden from spending more than $300k on a single player for the next two international free agent signing periods. This was a double blow to the Diamondbacks, as it made Lopez more costly than intended and really hurt their ability to sign international free agents for two years. Indirectly George Bell Jersey , this put a lot of burden onto Lopez to perform like a star to justify the signing. Keep this in mind. The scouting reports on Lopez were mixed, though there was a general consensus that he had a “big” fastball and had good upside, though he was deemed to be very risky due to erratic command at times. Nonetheless, the Diamondbacks were very high on Lopez, viewing him as a true ace that would join their rotation sooner than later. Many of the “internet scouts” assumed the Lopez would start at A-ball but the Diamondbacks sent him straight to AA. And that’s where the trouble really began. Lopez couldn’t get people out in AA, had low strikeout rates, and poor command. Now picture being a 22-year kid from Cuba now in the spotlight of America with the burden of justifying a widely-dismayed signing (see: the burden mentioned above) and struggling mightily in the minor leagues. Cameras had been following him everywhere. Well, it appears that all of this got to Yoan Lopez. He had attitude issues. For instance, he once posted a Snapchat video while wearing a Marlins hat and saying “No mas D-Backs; ahora Miami Marlins.“But that wasn’t the worst of it. Twice, he left the minor league team during road trips. The first time happened in 2015 and the team tracked him to Florida. It happened again in 2016 and when the Diamondbacks found him, he said he intended to quit. It seemed like this was the end of the road for Yoan Lopez’s baseball career and a massive disappointment at that. Fortunately, the team convinced Lopez to come back and assigned him a counselor. The team admitted that they pushed Lopez too hard and he appeared to do some growing up as well: The team shifted Lopez to a bullpen role and assigned him to High-A Visalia in 2017, where he really shined. In 30.2 innings, Lopez had a 0.88 ERA with a 16.43 K/9 against a 2.64 BB/9. He was absolutely dominant. In 2018 in AA, he had a 2.92 ERA in 61.2 IP with a 12.70 K/9 against 3.79 BB/9. Yoan Lopez Dave Winfield Jersey , MLB prospect, was back. The Diamondbacks rewarded this turnaround with an MLB callup in September. Of course, in almost natural fashion, Yoan Lopez had quite possibly the worst pitching debut in team history, as noted by Jim. Diamondbacks fans once again groaned, quickly recalling the 3+ years of disappointment from Lopez. Yet, he rebounded. He was absolutely stellar in his remaining nine appearances. His fastball was sitting at 97.52 MPH, on average, per Brooks Baseball in his brief stint last year. His slider was filthy. It appears that Yoan Lopez won’t ever reach that #1 starter potential that the team had envisioned, but his story is not yet over. In fact, it appears to be just beginning. Lopez has electric stuff and if he can keep this going, he can be a dynamic portion of the team’s bullpen for the next several years. NEW YORK (AP) — Miguel Andújar was activated by Yankees on Saturday and New York lost pitcher James Paxton to the 10-day injury list.Andújar, who missed 28 games because of a small labrum tear in his right shoulder, was batting fourth and playing third base against the Minnesota Twins.Paxton exited Friday’s start after the third inning with left knee soreness. He threw 64 pitches — 33 in the third inning before departing. He underwent an MRI on Saturday.“It’s just something that’s nagging at me enough that I couldn’t execute pitches,” Paxton said Friday. “I’m not real worried it’s going to be something long-term. I’m hoping it’s something that’s just a quick fix.”The Yankees were happy to get Andújar back after they feared he might need surgery that could jeopardize his season Jack Morris Jersey , but he responded well to rehab and rejoined the Yankees on Friday.“Excited to have another guy with Miggy’s capabilities, just potentially adding a little bit more length to our lineup,” manager Aaron Boone said. “So one of the guys we’ve been looking forward to getting back. The rehab process for him has gone as well as we could have hoped, so feel good about getting him back in the mix.”The Yankees are still without Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Didi Gregorius, Luis Severino, Dellin Betances, Aaron Hicks, Greg Bird and Troy Tulowitzki and have 13 players on the injured list.Andújar was injured diving back into third base on a pickoff attempt against Baltimore during New York’s third game this season on March 31.He batted .297 with 27 homers and 92 RBIs last season when he was runner-up for AL Rookie of the Year.To make room for Andújar, first baseman Mike Ford was optioned back to Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Ford batted .179 (5-for-28) with one homer and two RBIs in 10 games.

The Aces (3-6) jumped on Chihuahuas starter Bryan Mitchell with 3 runs in the 1st and a run in the 2nd. Unfortunately, the offense went stagnant after that. Domingo Leyba had an RBI triple and Kevin Cron an RBI single in that first inning. The bullpen was shaky as Vinny Nittoli allowed the Chihuahuas to even it up in the 7th inning before giving way to Mark Rzepczynski, who completed the inning with no further damage. Stefan Crichton would then give up the go-ahead runs in the 8th and pitch a scoreless 9th inning to take the loss. (AA) Jackson Generals 0, Chattanooga Lookouts 5: A disastrous 6th inning came back to bit the Generals, as Sam Lewis and Tyler Mark allowed 5 runs to score that inning. Lewis got the first out and gave up two baserunners before giving way to Tyler Mark, who would walk in a run then give up a Grand Slam. On the other side of the ball, the Generals (3-5) hitters continued to struggle at the plate as they only managed 5 hits and struck out 13 times.(A+) Visalia Rawhide 6, San Jose Giants 2: Travis Moths struggled with control, walking 3 and allowing 3 hits Khris Davis Jersey , but limited the damage to 2 runs. Jake McCarthy extended his hit streak to 5 with a pair of doubles, the first one giving the Rawhide (5-4) a 1st inning lead they never relinquished. After starting the season 0 for 12 with 8 Ks, McCarthy has since gone 7 for 18 with 4 XBH (2 2B, 2 3B), a 7/4 K/BB ratio, and 3/3 in stolen base attempts. Visalia then piled on with 2 runs each in the 4th and 5th innings. Camden Duzenack and Jose Caballero had RBI singles in the 4th and Jancarlos Cintron had a 2-run single in the 5th. The bullpen was outstanding with 5 shutout innings in relief, with Kevin McCanna, Kyler Stout, and Matt Brill combining to allow just 1 hit and 1 walk while punching out 5. (A) Kane County Cougars 12, Peoria Chiefs 2: Everything was clicking for Kane County (6-3) as the pitching and offense were both great. Franklyn Soriano posted five zeros while the offense went to work. They chased the Peoria starter with a 3 spot in the first that included a home run from Eduardo Diaz. A 5-run 6th inning blew the game open after the Cougars loaded the bases in the frame. A HBP, single, then double followed for the 5 runs in that inning. Zachery Almond had 4 hits and drove in 4 of the 12 runs to lead the offense. Alex King drove in 3 and pretty much every Cougar hitter except David Garza, who went 0 for 4 with 3 Ks, reached base and contributed in some form to the score.

Mandatory Credit: Joe CamporealeJoe Camporeale-USA TODAY SportsSalvador Perez debuted in August of 2011, and after eight seasons of watching the lovable Venezuelan we have retconned that event into being just another debut in a year filled with them. However, it was anything but that. Perez entered the season as a 20-year-old catcher whose greatest professional accomplishment to date was completing one single season at High-A Wilmington. Perez ended the year in the big leagues, the proud new owner of a multi-year and multi-million dollar extension. The Royals organization loved Perez. Bob Dutton wrote about Perez in February of 2011 in an article that is a spot-on and unnerving description considering his big league career:Still, though Dutton wrote that the catching future for the Royals “might be sooner than once imagined,” and that “More than ever, [his] timetable is under review,” nowhere in the piece does Dutton or any Royals staff insinuate that Perez could have been an August call-up. Indeed, Perez’s meteoric rise through the minor league system happened in spite of his total absence from any league-wide top prospect lists. Baseball-America ranked him as the 17th-best prospect in the Royals’ farm system.Of course, we know what happened. Perez started the year in Double-A Northwest Arkansas. After holding his own, the Royals promoted him to Triple-A Omaha, where again he held his own. Then, after 12 games, the Royals called Perez up to the bigs. The Royals valued Perez’s defensive impact highly enough that merely adequate offense propelled him to Kansas City. The Royals had also clearly targeted Perez as the Catcher of the Future A. J. Pollock Jersey , and when he performed up to par in a year in which there was an open spot for him, he made a move for that spot and the Royals obliged to promote him.Why the history lesson? Well, there’s an interesting situation playing out this year that has parallels to 2011. Perez will play zero games for the Royals this year after getting Tommy John surgery on his elbow. And while Kansas City picked up Martin Maldonado as a stopgap option, he’s on a one-year deal that will be attractive midseason trade bait. Like 2011, the Royals are bad, and like 2011 they are looking to turn to younger players. Most interestingly, the Royals have another young, fascinating catcher in the minor leagues. MJ Melendez doesn’t have the raw size of Perez, but Melendez’s 6’1” frame is an extremely athletic one. Like Perez, Melendez is getting some prospect hype even though he’s not on any top 100 lists yet; J.J. Cooper wrote in Baseball-America in January that Melendez is a potential breakout candidate, citing Melendez’s strong arm, athleticism, and in-game power. Like Perez, Melendez spent his age-19 season at Low-A Lexington and is poised to begin his age-20 season, also like Perez, at High-A Wilmington. Is Melendez likely to debut in the big leagues this year? The answer http://www.diamondbacksfa...-greinke-jersey , just like the answer for anybody making their High-A debut at the beginning of the season, is no. Very few players make that jump. But a read between the lines of general manager Dayton Moore’s quotes about Melendez after announcing Perez’s surgery are certainly curious. On one hand, Dave Skretta of AP Sports reported that Moore stressed that “the Royals have no intention of rushing MJ Melendez...to the big leagues,” a sentiment cemented by the signing of Maldonado. But Moore’s other quote about Melendez is far more interesting:Could this be GM speak—the type of quote that ultimately means nothing because Moore has to say something to reporters? Maybe. Certainly, parsing quotes like this is mostly a waste of time. It is, however, curious that Moore said this specifically when it could have been just as easy to blather something about letting Melendez develop and he’s ready when he’s ready and whatnot and forthwith. Melendez isn’t Perez, and there’s no guarantee he’ll succeed. You can frame comparisons between the two positively or negatively depending on your perspective. Melendez has hit for at least 21% above league average both seasons he’s played professionally, which is quite impressive and significantly better than Perez performed at the same age. However, Melendez has struck out three times as often as Perez did, raising legitimate concerns about his hit tool further up the minor league chain. And while Melendez is a good fielder, he’s not the fielder Perez was (and is, bum arm aside). But, like in 2011, the catcher spot in the big leagues is up for the taking. With a strong start to the year, Melendez could be that guy. And even if he’s not that guy this year Shelby Miller Jersey , he could make a strong move to make his debut early next year. As Gandalf the White once said: The board is set. The pieces are moving. Keep your eye on Melendez. Just like last time, the next Royals franchise catcher could be here sooner than you might think. When Seattle’s Edwin Diaz took the mound in a save situation Saturday night, it was the first time in 11 games he had such an opportunity.Such is the life of a closer.Despite some two-out drama, Diaz struck out the side in the ninth inning of a 4-1 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers for his 57th save, tying Bobby Thigpen of the 1990 Chicago White Sox for second on Major League Baseball’s season list.Article continues below ...After striking out the first two batters in the inning, the Rangers loaded the bases on an error, a hit batter and pinch-hitter Joey Gallo’s infield single. But Diaz fanned Jurickson Profar for the final out.“It’s an unbelievable number,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said of 57 saves. “It’s so hard to do that. All the one-run saves, the workload, staying focused all year long … it takes a special talent. It’s been really fun to watch him all year long. It’s a blessing to have him at the end of the bullpen. …“When the bell rings in the ninth inning, he’s ready to get it on.”In the Mariners’ previous 10 games, they won four times — three by blowouts and the other in 11 innings. That thwarted Diaz’s bid to reach Francisco Rodriguez’s major-league record of 62 saves set in 2008.“It’s been tough,” Diaz told MLB.com. “I want to pitch, I want to save games. I got used to seeing close games every night, now we’re winning by a lot. But that’s fine. It’s a long season. When they give me the ball, I’m ready to go.”It appeared Diaz might get a chance Friday night Chris Owings Jersey , when the Rangers rallied from a nine-run deficit to close within 9-6 in the eighth inning. While Diaz was warming up in the bullpen, the Mariners scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to nullify the save opportunity.“That’s fine. That’s part of the game,” Diaz said. “I can’t be mad, I have to support my team.”Diaz said he has already surpassed his own expectations.“My goal was 40 saves before the season started,” he said. “I’m at (57) and it’s pretty special to me. I worked hard to get ready for this season, and I feel like I helped the team win a lot of games.”Diaz might get one more chance Sunday afternoon when the Mariners and Rangers meet in the regular-season finale.Texas right-hander Yovani Gallardo (8-7, 6.40 ERA) is scheduled to take on Seattle left-hander Roenis Elias (2-1, 2.93). Gallardo is 3-2 with a 2.54 ERA in five career starts against the Mariners; Elias is 2-2 with a 2.37 ERA in seven previous appearances against the Rangers, including five starts. The season series between the Mariners (88-73) and the last-place Rangers (67-94) is tied 9-9 heading into the finale. Seattle has a winning record against every other team in the American League West this season.Rangers interim manager Don Wakamatsu said 21-year veteran Adrian Beltre, who is considering retirement, will start at third base Sunday after serving as the designated hitter each of the previous two games.“I think it’s only befitting that he does that, especially because he played here (in Seattle from 2005 to 2009), too,” Wakamatsu said. “He talks about finishing strong and finishing the season, and here he is. He wants to play third base on the last day of the season.”

Bedrosian has no options left so he’s a sure thing on opening day.Noe Ramirez - Ramirez did not have a great season in 2018 - especially the second half. Given that he’s out of options, the Angels aren’t likely to cut ties with him before the season starts unless his spring is a mess.Dan Jennings - The new dude George Bell Jersey , and left replacement for Jose Alvarez. He’s not current on the 40 man roster but will likely be moved there before the season starts.Luis Garcia - The other new dude who could lose his spot with a rough spring but he’s also out of options.Likely making the cut:Ty Buttrey - Buttrey has options, but it’s hard to imagine a situation in which he doesn’t make the opening day roster based on what he did in 2018.Justin Anderson - Another pleasant surprise in 2018 but he grew more and more wild as the season went on. He has a good shot of making the roster but is not a lock.Next TierJake Jewell - Only 2 IP in 2018 due to a freak injury. We’ll see him at some point, just maybe not to start the season.Taylor Cole - Cole is a guy who could bump Anderson or someone above for a spot if he has a good spring.Depending on how the season shakes out, all of these guys below could see some time on the big league roster but it is HIGHLY unlikely any of them make the cut for the 25-man. Instead, they’ll be keeping the bullpen bench warm in Salt Lake for much or the season.Williams Jerez*John Curtiss*Daniel Hudson*Jeremey Rhoades*Matt Ramsey*Luke Bard*Ryan Clark*Miguel Almonte It’s a busy day in Birdland. First, we found out Buck Showalter wouldn’t be back as manager. Now, Ken Rosenthal reports that Dan Duquette will be out of the front office as well."Wednesday was a busy afternoon in the Warehouse. Early in the afternoon, the Orioles and manager Buck Showalter were reported to be parting ways. Later on in the evening, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal struck again with a scoop that Dan Duquette, the executive vice president of baseball operations, is not expected to be retained. That is a lot of upheaval for one day.Duquette Dave Winfield Jersey , whose contract is set to expire at this season’s official conclusion, has spent the last several months acting like a man who thinks he’s coming back, perhaps because he had no choice but to do so. As the team launched its rebuild trades, the players Duquette got back will have a big impact on how short of a time the franchise spends in the doldrums. He talked about things that need to change in the front office as if he would be the one overseeing those improvements. In that way, it is a surprise that the Orioles have chosen to move on from Duquette. If they were going to let him go at season’s end, why did they let him trade players like Kevin Gausman and Jonathan Schoop, who were not free agents this year? Perhaps he should have been fired months ago rather than left around as a lame duck to make those deals. Perhaps it doesn’t matter. In another way, it’s not surprising at all that the Orioles are going to have a different general manager, or whatever title they prefer to give the next person occupying that role. The Orioles were just 47-115. Duquette was the architect of the roster that put up that record. His trades, his signings, his draft picks Jack Morris Jersey , and his other assorted moves put the Orioles where they are now. There is no compelling reason to keep anyone who has presided over such a disaster. It may be, given the general impression of dysfunction in the Orioles front office, that Duquette was not entirely responsible for some of the bad decisions that were made. That’s the way it goes. Cot’s Contracts information shows that Duquette has been making “about $2 million annually,” which is a good paycheck to cushion the impact of being the fall guy.Notable in the vein of that dysfunction: We have heard about Buck Showalter and now we have heard about Duquette. What is the future of Brady Anderson? Is he going to be the next GM? Is the next GM going to have to accept that Anderson will be weirdly lurking, answerable only to someone named Angelos, sticking his nose in at unpredictable intervals? Are they going to make it a clean sweep and send him packing as well? The Orioles offered at least a partial answer to the Brady question in a press release with the mild title of “Orioles announce transition in baseball operations leadership.” That might not be all the way into George Orwell territory, but it’s heading there. In the release, the O’s announced that the next leader of the baseball operations department will come outside of the organization. The release also claims that “this individual will have the final determination on all baseball matters that he or she believes will make the Orioles successful on the field, entertaining to fans, and impactful in the community.” It’s good that they said that. Whether they follow through with it is something that I think still remains to be settled.

FanGraphs has their Depth Chart predictions which take into account Steamer, Depth Charts (aka predicting playing time), and ZiPS - the later of which are not yet out Brad Boxberger Jersey , so these numbers may change once those are released.Instead of focusing on every single player (though their data is included below), I’m going to take a stab at which players will outperform their projections and which players may under perform. I didn’t include the players who I thought would perform close to their predictions which was quite of few of them.OVERMike Trout (.441 OBP / 9.3 WAR)Trout just keeps getting better and everyone knows it. If he doesn’t get himself injured again in 2019, he should easily outperform his current estimates. In the past three years, Trout’s OBP has been .441, .442, .460 while his WAR has been 9.6, 6.9, 9.8. Keep in mind that the 9.8 was ONLY over 140 games. After two years in which Trout averaged only 127 games, the Angels really need him to stay healthy all season - and if he does it’s a no brainer what his final numbers will look like.Shohei Ohtani (26 HR, 2.7 WAR)Ohtani’s power is ridiculous and although pitchers will adjust to him - so will he adjust. Not only that, Ohtai has not yet reached peak power age and if he get at least 490 PA’s as is projected, he might just hit 30+ home runs. I see Ohtani as a 30 HR / 15 SB guy if he gets to 500 PAs, and he certainly has a shot at 3+ WAR as well.Andrelton Simmons (102 wRC+ Daniel Descalso Jersey , 4.2 WAR)Simba has been a huge offensive boost for the Angels over the past two seasons and has improved each year in lowering his K rate, increasing BABIP and AVG, and putting up two back to back 5+ WAR seasons with wRC+ of 103 an 109. All that and he doesn’t turn 30 until the end of the season so there is every reason to believe he can keep performing at that 5+ WAR pace for at least another year or two.David Fletcher (.312 OBP, 1.9 WAR)In 2018, Fletcher put up a 1.9 WAR in just 80 games. FanGraphs has him projected at 143 games in 2019 which should be the case unless Rengifo steals his job and Cozart looks like his 2017 version. I expect that he will mature as a hitter and top his .316 from last year to put him somewhere in the .320+ range and 2.0+ WAR.Keynan Middleton (3.94 ERA, 25 IP)Middleton will be coming back from TJ surgery, but all indications are that his rehab is going well. It’s not unrealistic to see him toss more in the 30 inning range, especially if he returns in June. In two seasons, Middleton has a career 3.43 ERA and 4.24 FIP with the Angels, both of which I seem him improving upon in 2019.Ty Buttrey (3.71 ERA, 0.5 WAR)Buttrey has some very impressive moments in 2018, including a 0.8 WAR and 3.31 ERA in 16.1 IP.He has the stuff to be a solid piece as the back end of the bullpen and should at least match his 2018 ERA and probably go over 1.0 WAR.UNDERKole Calhoun (.242 AVG, 21 HR Ketel Marte Jersey , 2.0 WAR)If you are to believe the middle of Calhoun’s season last year, then the above numbers may be possible. However, Calhoun is getting older and he struggled in a huge way at the beginning of the season as well as at the end in which he hit only .125 over the last month of the season. The Angels need Calhoun to be better than that but I don’t see him hitting any of the above numbers in 2019.Zack Cozart (.315 OBP, 3.1 WAR)First, Cozart needs to come back strong from a pretty major surgery. On top of that, he has only had one season in his career in which he put up a WAR greater than 2.0 (5.0 in 2017). Cozart also has a career .304 OBP and has only gone to .315 or higher once in his career as well (also in 2017). Those numbers are aggressive for Cozart who may end up in the 1.0-2.0 WAR range and closer to a .300 or .310 OBP.Albert Pujols (.299 OBP, 0.1 WAR)The projections aren’t kind of Pujols who is predicted to only make 100 games and 420 plate appearances. However, his OBP hasn’t been above .289 since 2016 and he has back to back negative fWAR seasons. If Pujols can have a postive fWAR and an OBP near .300 I’d call that a win but it doesn’t seem possible as he continues to break down.Cam Bedrosian (4.05 ERA, 0.2 WAR)Bedrosian has been on a decline the past 3 years and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not on the team by mid season. Over the past 3 seasons his K rate has gone down each year while his walk rate has gone up. Bedrosian has also seen his average fastball velocity dip 3 MPH since 2016 and he just isn’t missing that many bats.FULL PROJECTIONS:Position Player ProjectionsNameGPA2B3BHRRRBIBBSOSBAVGOBPSLGOPSWARNameGPA2B3BHRRRBIBBSOSBAVGOBPSLGOPSWARStarter ProjectionsNameWLERAGIPHERHRSOBBWHIPK/9BB/9FIPWARNameWLERAGIPHERHRSOBBWHIPK/9BB/9FIPWARBullpen ProjectionsNameWLSVERAIPHERHRSOBBWHIPK/9BB/9FIPWARNameWLSVERAIPHERHRSOBBWHIPK/9BB/9FIPWAR

Carlos Carrasco earned the loss after surrendering six runs on ten hits in fewer than five innings. Michael Pineda pitched four innings of shutout baseball in his first start since the middle of 2017, setting the stage for Martin Perez to earn the win out of the bullpen. How did things go awry? The Twins opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning on a Willians Astudillo double to left center. Leonys Martin nearly made an excellent play, but his lunge for the catch came up just short. The ball hopped to the wall and allowed the first run of the game to score. They jumped to a 3-0 lead after another Astudillo double hopped the wall to put runners on second and third. Both of these came around to score on a scorched Byron Buxton double down the left field line. Nelson Cruz added one in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run no-doubt bomb to left. Another run scored off of Neil Ramirez when Jonathan Schoop singled in a run later in the inning. Yet more runs scored when Carlos Santana cut-off a throw on a sacrifice fly and attempted to nail Cruz at third base, but he lobbed it over Jose Ramirez’s head instead. It was not a good inning. The final run of the game came off of Shane Bieber after he plunked Astudillo and gave up two hits. He pitched two innings of relief, because apparently you can’t just bump Kluber’s start back and let Bieber actually have a normal start. Did anything good happen? In the top of the 8th inning, the Indians finally got something going. Eric Stamets drew a walk with one out, followed by a strikeout by Max Moroff. With two outs http://www.rangersfanpros...tt-moore-jersey , Jose Ramirez and Jake Bauers singled to road the bases. Santana ripped a bases-clearing double to left, putting three runs on the board for the Indians and cutting the deficit to five. Hanley Ramirez struck out looking to end the inning, along with all of the excitement for Indians fans. Despite his earlier miscues, Santana finished the game 4-4 (one of these should have been an error, and he got thrown out anyway) with 3 RBIs. It wasn’t all bad for the Indians offense overall, as the rest of the team contributed two additional hits and six walks. The Indians struck out 13 times for the third consecutive game. The Indians offense isn’t going to be this cold forever, and Francisco Lindor will be back eventually. That doesn’t make it any more exciting at the moment http://www.rangersfanpros...tt-moore-jersey , however. What happened to Carrasco? Carrasco struggled with command today, but not the way we usually assume when someone mentions command issues. Rather than walking a bunch of hitters, his pitches floated back over the center of the strike zone. Kevin Plawecki consistently set targets in the corners, and when Carrasco hit them he looked like the top-tier talent we’ve grown accustomed to. To bad the Twins’ lineup features too many quality hitters to get away with mistakes over the center of the plate. What’s next for the Cleveland Indians? The Tribe heads home and face the Chciago White Sox at 4:10 PM. The odd time is due to a Monday Night Baseball quadruple-header, starting with St. Louis @ Pittsburgh at 1:00 PM, then featuring the Tribe-White Sox matchup, the Cubs @ the Braves Curtis Granderson Jersey , and finally the Giants @ the Dodgers. That’s to be determined over the next three days as the Brewers look to turn their strange bullpen-heavy pitching concoction into a triumphant postseason team. It might work. Stranger things have happened. The game is set to get going on FS1 tonight at 7:39. If you tune in any earlier than that you might have to listen to either David Ortiz or Alex Rodriguez, which no one should ever want. Here is the starting lineup for the visiting Brewers:Lorenzo Cain - CFChristian Yelich - RFRyan Braun - LFTravis Shaw - 2BJesus Aguilar - 1BMike Moustakas - 3BErik Kratz - COrlando Arcia - SSJhoulys Chacin - PAnd the starting lineup for the home team Dodgers:Joc Pederson - LFMax Muncy - 1BJustin Turner - 3BManny Machado - SSCody Bellinger - CFYasiel Puig - RFYasmani Grandal - CEnrique Hernandez - 2BWalker Buehler - P

162 rankings later http://www.giantsfanprosh...longoria-jersey , here’s what we find."On Monday, e D-backs bullpen this year, covering both the relievers on the 40-man roster, and the non-roster invitees. 162 of you took up your mice and accepted the challenge, so here are the results. I’ve divided the list below into three blocks. The first are the top seven in the rankings, whom we have decided are the “best” relievers we have. The next half-dozen represent those who will most likely be called upon as coverage for injury, fatigue or ineffectiveness. Finally, are those who are seen as long-shots: however, it is worth remembering that Arizona used eighteen “proper” relievers last year (excluding emergency use of starters and position players). Each player is preceded by their average ranking in the poll, e.g. Archie Bradley was generally slightly above the #2 spot. The bullpen1.9: Archie Bradley2.4: Yoshihisa Hirano3.8: Greg Holland5.0: Andrew Chafin5.8: T.J. McFarland7.6: Yoan Lopez7.9: Jimmie SherfyThe instructions for the poll were not to consider the option situation in considering your rankings. This should be a pure qualitative assessment. But the top five basically turned out more or less as you’d expect. You might argue with the rankings - I’d put the guy with the 2.44 ERA last year, ahead of the one with the 3.64 ERA -but it does seem that Bradley, Hirano, Holland Matt Williams Jersey , Chafin and McFarland are all locks for the Opening Day bullpen, health permitting. According to Roster Resource, Archie and Andrew each have one option left; Hirano has three. However, it’s hard to envisage any of them being sent to the minors unless things go very wrong. It’s the last two spots which are most interesting, in terms of debate. Our voters went for Lopez and Sherfy, apparently showing a preference for flame-throwing right-handers! However, in terms of track record, they have both shown impressive stuff. Over his first 26 regular season games, Sherfy has an ERA of 1.00, while Lopez had a K:BB ratio of 11:1 over his nine innings of work. They have three and one option seasons left respectively, so both could be moved up and down to the minors without issue. However, those options may mean they potentially lose out in the final reckoning, to those without them? The taxi squad8.5: Silvino Bracho9.3: Matt Andriese9.5: Matt Koch11.5: Rubby De La Rosa13.0: Braden Shipley13.9: Kevin GinkelBus-pass Bracho would be one such pitcher http://www.giantsfanprosh...longoria-jersey , though the team certainly got its use out of his option year in 2018. It would be no surprise if the team swapped either Sherfy or Lopez out of the list above, in order to retain Bracho’s services this season. Koch is in the same boat, also being out of options, though his career 5.50 fielding-independent ERA (compared to a 4.04 actual ERA) does suggest he has perhaps been skating by on smoke and mirrors so far. Andriese and Shipley each have one option left, and can probably get their suitcases packed. De La Rosa is also out of options, but isn’t on the 40-man roster at this point, and presumably would not be until added. Quite impressed to see Ginkel make it (albeit just) into this middle group, considering he hasn’t appeared above Double-A. But he looked impressive in the Arizona Fall League, with a K:BB of 17:2 in just 10.2 innings. Obviously, options are not a problem there, but he appears one to watch, perhaps in the second half of the season. The fringes14.1: Stefan Crichton14.2: Nick Green 14.3: Joey Krehbiel14.8: Robby Scott15.9: Bo Takahashi16.4: Emilio VargasFinally, we have those who are seen as long shots for the Opening Day roster. All would present no roster construction problems Willie Mays Jersey , with the exception of Green. He was a Rule 5 pick last year, which means we have to keep him on the 25-man roster all season, or offer him back to the club from which he came. Based on these results, D-backs fans do not hold out much hope of that happening. Most of the rest are prospects, with the exception of Robby Scott, whose ranking here seems shockingly low, for a left-hander who has three seasons of MLB experience and a 3.91 career ERA. Those tend not to grow on trees, and I think even if he doesn’t make the roster, he’ll be considerably higher up the waiting list than shown here. The ACTUAL Opening Day rosterWe now move into the second phase of this exercise, where you need to read the minds of Mike Hazen and Torey Lovullo. For you have to choose those whom you think actually will make the Opening Day roster. That takes into account not only pitching quality, but also the option situation, as outlined above. Below, is a form listing all 19 names (in random order) http://www.giantsfanprosh...longoria-jersey , but with a simple yes/no question: Will they make the Opening Day roster? Polls will be open for the next two days, and we’ll review the results on Friday. Link to form for mobile users. Manfred’s rule changing mission continues"Say what you want about Rob Manfred, but don’t call him someone who is fine with the way things are. He’s push on a hard push to change many MLB rules since he took office. Thanks to Jeff Passan, we have some details on new proposed changes for MLB owners to talk about.A three-batter minimum for pitchersWhile I’m not a fan of using 4 pitchers in an inning, I’m not sure how this will go over. If someone just doesn’t have it, watching them struggle through 3 batters is going to be rough. I get that it’s meant to prevent all the matchup changes, but it could have some bad side effects. Maybe I’d be more in for a 2 batter minimum.A universal designated hitterYes please! I used to hate this and though - the pitchers just need to learn how to hit better. But let’s face it. They don’t. Let’s have the DH everywhere so we don’t have to watch the 9 hole hitter bunt horribly every time they come up.A single trade deadline before the All-Star breakI’m more of a fan of two deadlines. One at All-Star Break and one maybe in December. Not sure about the one deadline but my feelings aren’t real strong on this one either.A 20-second pitch clockSure. Only when no one is on base. Throw the damn ball! The expansion of rosters to 26 men, with a 12-pitcher maximumI like this one. Give another guy a job! Owners won’t like it because they’ll have to pay one more guy 500K+.Draft advantages for winning teams and penalties for losing teamsThis is a STUPID idea that will more often than not benefit juggernauts like the Dodgers, Yankees, Roid Sux, etc. Please make this idea go away. Who came up with this trash?Sure, it will prevent teams from tanking (no it won’t).A study to lower the moundA study? Okay. That’s fine. WhateverA rule that would allow two-sport amateurs to sign major league contractsJust say no. If an amateur can’t suck it up and sign a minor league contract like everyone else then go let him play football or basketball or whatever else he wants to do. Pay the dues like everyone else buddy!

Right after the draft was concluded, it was announced that Jackson had been traded to the Orioles for International Signing Bonus money. The Orioles will still be held to the same restrictions as the original drafting team. The Dodgers will receive $100K for each player taken from their system. If at any point, Connor Joe and/or Drew Jackson is removed from their team’s 25-man rosters, any team can claim him and then they would have the same restrictions for having a Rule 5 draft pick on their active roster. If no one claims the player, the Dodgers can pay $50K back to that team and get the player back. The Dodgers can also decide not to take the player back and then those players can be sent down to the original drafting team’s minor league system. As for the Dodgers, they have a full 40-man roster so they were not able to make a selection in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft. And then http://www.tigersfanprosh...-jimenez-jersey , the Dodgers passed on taking anyone in the Minor League phase of the Rule 5 Draft. ATLANTA (AP) — Tyler Flowers isn’t a fan of pinch-hitting. On his memorable day, even that went right.Pinch-runner Adam Duvall scored the tiebreaking run on a delayed dash from third base and Flowers hit a two-run homer in Atlanta’s four-run eighth inning as the Braves beat Tampa Bay 9-5 on Tuesday night to snap the Rays’ eight-game winning streak.Flowers’ homer came after he agreed to a contract extension that could keep him in Atlanta through the 2020 season.“It was a pretty good day,” Flowers said. “All in all, it wasn’t too bad.”The homer was Atlanta’s sixth by pinch-hitters this season, tied for the most in the majors. Asked if he had become more comfortable as a pinch-hitter, Flowers said, “Not a bit, no.”Chaz Roe (1-3) walked Kurt Suzuki to open the eighth. Suzuki advanced to third on Ozzie Albies’ third hit, a double to the right-field corner.Duvall, running for Suzuki, initially remained at third base on Dansby Swanson’s groundout to second. When first baseman Jake Bauers looked to possibly throw to second, where Albies was standing off the bag, Duvall took off in a desperate sprint for the plate.Home plate umpire Chad Fairchild called Duvall safe on his slide under the tag of catcher Michael Perez Chad Bettis Jersey , beating Bauers’ throw. A video review lasting 1 minute, 45 seconds, confirmed the call.Bauers said he looked to second base because he thought Duvall was running on contact and already had scored. Then Bauers said he heard third baseman Matt Duffy yelling for him to throw to Perez.“I did my best to throw it home and get him,” Bauers said. “Obviously he snuck in.”Flowers’ homer landed in the Rays’ bullpen behind the left-field wall. Ender Inciarte, who drove in two runs on four hits, added another homer to center off Andrew Kittredge. The Rays suffered their first loss since Aug. 18 at Boston.“It just means we have to start again,” said Brandon Lowe, who hit his first homer, a two-run shot , in the sixth. “Losing stinks but now you can start another winning streak.”Brad Brach (2-3) recorded the final out in the eighth. The Rays loaded the bases off A.J. Minter with two outs in the ninth. Willy Adames’ groundout ended the game, and first-place Atlanta moved 4½ games ahead of Philadelphia in the NL East.Tampa Bay trailed 5-2 before Adames’ single off Jonny Venters in the eighth drove in Tommy Pham from second for a 5-5 tie. Nick Markakis doubled in two runs in Atlanta’s four-run fifth inning.Braves starter Julio Teheran gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings.TRAINER’S ROOMRays: OF Mallex Smith (viral infection) worked out at Tropicana Field after being released from the hospital Sunday. There is no timetable for his return to the team.Braves: RHP Arodys Vizcaino, who has been out since July 14 while on the DL for the second time this season with right shoulder inflammation, threw in the bullpen. Manager Brian Snitker said Vizcaino is “feeling good now” but needs to appear in a minor league rehab game before more is known about his outlook for this season.THE OPENERRays opener Ryne Stanek pitched a scoreless first inning before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the second. Yonny Chirinos allowed five runs Jonathan Lucroy Jersey , two earned, on seven hits and three walks in five innings.NEW DEALThe 32-year-old Flowers agreed to a $4 million contract for 2019 and a $6 million club option, with a $2 million buyout, for 2020.ERRORS HURTThe Rays led 2-1 before Ozzie Albies and Dansby Swanson opened the fifth with singles off the gloves of second baseman Joey Wendle and Duffy, respectively. Teheran’s bunt was mishandled by Bauers for an error and then picked up by Duffy, who threw low to first for another error, allowing Albies to score the tying run.UP NEXTRays: RHP Diego Castillo (3-2, 3.23 ERA) is expected to make only his third start when the two-game series concludes on Wednesday night. He has appeared in 30 games in relief.Braves: LHP Sean Newcomb (11-6, 3.57) will make his second start of the season against the Rays. He threw six scoreless innings in a 1-0 win on May 8 at Tampa Bay.

:INJURIES MOUNTINGThe Houston Astros are hoping for good news on All-Star outfielder George Springer http://www.giantsfanprosh...longoria-jersey , who exited Sunday’s loss to the Dodgers after hurting his left thumb on a headfirst slide. It’s unclear how long the 2017 World Series MVP might be out. “He was in a lot of pain,” manager AJ Hinch said. “He is going to get evaluated. Other than that I have no idea.” Before the game, the defending champs put pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. on the 10-day disabled list with right elbow discomfort. And star second baseman Jose Altuve (right knee soreness) was sent back to Houston for further examination. Last year’s AL MVP won’t come off the DL when eligible this week.PLAYOFF PREVIEW?Jake Arrieta (9-6, 3.32 ERA) pitches for the Phillies, looking for their sixth straight victory when they visit Arizona in a matchup of NL division leaders. Zack Godley (12-6, 4.46) goes for the Diamondbacks.HAMELS’ DAYCole Hamels makes his second start for the Cubs when they open a three-game series at last-place Kansas City. Hamels was acquired in a July 27 trade with Texas. The veteran lefty had been struggling with the Rangers, but he struck out nine while pitching five effective innings in a 9-2 victory at Pittsburgh in his Chicago debut last Wednesday.FISH STORYWill the fading Angels have Mike Trout back in the lineup when they host Detroit? The star outfielder has missed four consecutive games with a nagging right wrist injury. Trout hasn’t played since getting hurt while sliding on a steal attempt Wednesday at Tampa Bay. The 26-year-old slugger said Saturday night he still has soreness when he swings and throws. Trout had been expected back earlier, but his wrist hasn’t responded to treatment as hoped. X-rays and an MRI revealed inflammation. Trout is batting .309 with 30 home runs.THE REPLACEMENTLance Lynn makes his first start for the Yankees, facing the White Sox in Chicago. The right-hander was acquired from Minnesota last Monday and will take the rotation spot previously held by an inconsistent Sonny Gray, who was demoted to the bullpen. Lynn threw 4 1/3 shutout innings of relief with five strikeouts in his New York debut. The Yankees, coming off a four-game sweep by the rival Red Sox, have lost a season-high five straight and trail Boston by 9 1/2 games in the AL East.BACK IN GOTHAMMatt Harvey returns to Citi Field with Cincinnati and is expected to speak with reporters. The former Mets ace http://www.giantsfanprosh...longoria-jersey , traded to the Reds in May, is not scheduled to pitch in the three-game series. Noah Syndergaard (6-2, 2.98 ERA) gets the ball for New York in the opener against Homer Bailey (1-8, 5.87). A lefty-hitting college bat with prodigious power, Robertson has a skillset with universal appeal."MeasureablesHeight: 6’1”Weight: 210 lbs.Bats/throws: L/LAge: 21.5 yrs.Class: 4YR Jr.OverviewCreighton hasn’t produced a ton of major-league talent as a program- save for all-time great Bob Gibson who attended on a basketball scholarship- with its most notable recent products including Ty Blach, Pat Venditte and Darin “Babe” Ruf. Junior outfielder Will Robertson appears poised to be the first product to be selected in the top five rounds since the aforementioned Blach, and could potentially become the highest Jay drafted since Alan Benes went in round one in 1993. As a freshman in 2017, the previously unheralded Robertson announced his arrival by starting in all 49 games- the first Creighton freshman to do so since Ruf- and hitting .272 with fifteen extra base hits, earning him freshman All-American honors and a second-team All-Big East nod. Building on a strong debut, Robertson erupted in 2018 and led CU across the board in offense with a .333/.412/.641 slash line, 12 home runs (out of 33 extra base hits), 17 walks and 31 strikeouts. While his plate discipline numbers leave a bit to be desired Mark Melancon Jersey , Robertson was hitting everything- and hard- and aren’t indicative of a free-swinging approach on their own. Following his outstanding sophomore campaign, Robertson headed out to the Cape Cod League with the Cotuit Kettleers, where he showed well and ranked among the league’s best hitters statistically with a .300/.380/.435 slash in 192 PAs and 4 home runs with wood bats. Robertson is broadly built with a fairly maxed-out frame. His swing has a relatively long, power-oriented path with above-average bat speed. He doesn’t look like a future batting champ, but gets the barrel to the ball decisively and generates a lot of pop with his lower half. From the limited looks I have had, he seems to cover the plate well, and has the look of a potential heart-of-the-order bat as he refines his approach. His power should earn plus grades from most all evaluators. In the field, he may provide less value but has a chance to handle right field, or first base should his range prove lacking. At either spot, the pop in his bat projects to carry him. Typically, Omaha only becomes a focus for scouts when the College World Series gets underway, but in 2019 Robertson will serve as a season-long attraction at Jays home games. The young outfielder has already proven his capabilities as a hitter for power early in his college career Deion Sanders Jersey , and if he can quiet concerns about his future defensive home and hone his approach, he will be one of the most talked about players in the college game as the 2019 draft approaches. Projected Draft RoundMost outlets list Robertson among the best college position prospects in the class, typically just outside of first-round range. He projects as a day one selection, if not a first-rounder. Does he fit with Houston?I’m not sure Robertson is the prototypical Luhnow selection given his statistical profile, but his powerful, experienced bat should make him a consideration for Houston should he be on the board for their first couple of picks. MLB Player ComparisonA prototypical corner bat, there is no shortage of players to whom Robertson could be compared. An easy comp would be someone like Jay Bruce. VideoRobertson’s first name was listed as Jonathan on CCBL materials, and Will most everywhere else, to avoid confusion.

Who should be No. 10? Joseph CoblitzCatcher Bo Naylor is our No. 9 Cleveland Indians prospect after he was selected with the Indians first round draft pick at No. 29 overall in the 2018 MLB draft. At 18 years old, Bo Naylor is the younger brother of power-hitting Padres prospect Josh Naylor, but Bo appears to be the better athlete playing a position that will aid his prospect status.Bo Naylor debuted in the Arizona Rookie League last season and definitely looked like he belonged, sporting a .274/.381/.402 slashline in 139 plate appearances over 33 games while hitting a pair of home runs. He even flashed a little bit of speed with five steals.Naylor possesses solid power, but his hit tool grades a bit better than his ability to hit the long ball, which is a good thing. He also showcased a patient approach at the plate, walking at an elite 15.1 percent rate (although he did strike out 20.1 percent of the time).A big factor in Naylor staying a top Indians prospect will be whether or not he can stay behind the plate, where his offensive profile makes him one of the best catching prospects in baseball. Naylor has a strong arm and his athletic ability and size will allow him to stay at the position for now, but it’s worth keeping an eye on as his career continues. Another intriguing factor for Naylor is that he’s from Canada, which means he hasn’t spent quite the same amount of time on his craft compared to others in warmer climates, so there is still some serious potential for growth if the Tribe’s minor league coaching staff can tap into it.Look for Naylor to begin 2019 in Low-A Mahoning Valley as he continues moving up the organizational ladder. None of those three are likely to command anything in return come July. And any return we do get will undoubtedly be lessened by the front office’s unwillingness to eat salaries when trading players. The front office knows this, regardless of what they might say in public. The only reason for these signings is because these players may be marginally better than the younger Kevin Long Jersey , less experienced players whose positions they are taking up on the bench (Starling and Arteage, along with a few others). These players may allow the Royals to only lose 98 games instead of 100, and thus, the front office hopes, see a few thousand more fans coming to games throughout the season. The sad fact is, like last year, the Royals front office are missing the forest for the trees. The fastest way to get more people out to the games to watch is to field either a winning team, or a young team with lots of potential. There are still 11 teams with a younger roster, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, and yet the Royals are not winning games. I know I don’t want to watch Lucas Duda or Chris Owings hit.Hamilton has been somewhat fun to watch, but his empty average (hitting .286 with a 69 wRC+) doesn’t do much to inspire hope. It’s time for the Royals to be rid of aging veterans and have younger, untested, unproven players take their place. The team will likely lose a few more games (though what is the real difference between 95 and 100 losses?) but at least we as fans would have a reason to watch. And after posting the lowest attendance numbers since 2010, hopefully the front office will come to realize they need a different philosophy and embrace the rebuild.Because 2014 and 2015 were a hell of a lot of fun, and the quicker we get back to contending, the better for everyone.
